"MILITARY SPIRITUALS" AND "POWERFUL SAINTS" BOOKS ARE PUBLISHED BY DILIGENCE OF MATENADARAN’S RESEARCHER LUSINE TUMANYAN

"Military Spirituals," by diligence of Lusine Tumanyan, Part I, Yerevan, 2017, 128 pages

The first volume of the book is dedicated to the exclusive mission of Armenian clergymen in the struggle for the freedom of the Homeland in the early 20th century. All the clerical orders of the East and West parts of Armenia have been involved in the sacred work of defending the Homeland and the Church. They struggled on the battlefield, for the cultural values and in the political sphere. This fight was headed by George V of Armenia, Catholicos of All Armenians. By his initiative, Armenian volunteer squads were formed and equipped, the main task of which was the liberation of Western Armenia.
This book has attempted to wipe off the dust of history from a group of patriarchal clergymen.  The participant clergymen of the heroic battle of Bash Aparan are presented who brought together the Armenian population of the region, armed men and resisted the enemy. Among the clergymen presented in the book is exception the abbot of the cloister of Nor Varagavank Grigor Manucharyan, who fought armed in the early 19th century. The book is concluded by the head of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Vrtanes Bishop Hakobyan's activity during the most severe repressions of the Soviet Union.

"POWERFUL SAINTS" by diligence of Lusine Tumanyan, Yerevan, 2017, 144 pages, 22 of them are miniatures.

The book presents the biography of twenty-one saints, whose characters have constantly inspired the Armenian people during the centuries-long struggle. The book begins with the Archangel Michael and the Holy Virgin’s biographies and other saints are also included in the book. Some of them were military, others were clergymen, and some struggled with weapons and prayers for the sake of Homeland and God, some with pens and prayers, some with patriotic and church activities. Some of them have shed their blood and have been martyred; others have gone through their lifetime by following Christ, becoming a living martyr.
The book has been described in a biographical style, adhering to the Church Sacred Tradition, but numerous data related to the life and activity of saints have been found out and clarified by the scientific sources. Before each biography, the saint's miniature is placed taken from the manuscript heritage kept at Mashtots Matenadaran.
