Matenadaran - Scientific Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts named after Mesrop Mashtots published the Russian translation of the book “History of the Calamity of Armenia Minor and its great capital Sebastia”. The author is a scholar, philosopher and pedagogue Karapet Gabikian, the book was translated from Armenian into Russian by Doctor of Philological Sciences Knarik Ter-Davtian. The book is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The eyewitness presents in the book the history of the calamity of Armenian population and extermination of 350,000 Armenians of Armenia Minor and capital Sebastia in particular. The author was one of the survivors of the calamity and wrote all that he had seen by creating this book with great historical value. It is considered to be one of the most valuable books on the Armenian Genocide that comprehensively represents the historical events and facts.
The book was first published in Boston, 1924. Gabikian was highly conscious of the importance and value of his book. He wrote that the materials about calamity of the Armenians written before his book carried partial character and there Armenia Minor and Sebastia were mentioned in passing. He was convinced that one day the full history about the calamity will be created for which his book will be one of the main sources.
