The International Association for Armenian Studies (AIEA) will pass its immediate 13th conference in Yerevan on  October  9-11, 2014 together with “Matenadaran” the        Scientific  Research  Institute  of  Ancient  Manuscripts  after  Mesrop  Mashtots  (See the conference program).
This association carrying international great authority was founded in 1981 by initiative of armenologists Prof. Michael Stone and Prof. Jos Weitenberg. It combines over 400 armenologists from more than 20 countries (since 1988 also from Armenia) and representatives of adjacent professions. The leading forces, such as foreign and Armenian scientists of Armenian Studies centers, operating in Europe educational institutions, form the basic seed of the association.
The basic goals of association: to stimulate Armenian studies’ development with his all spheres; to combine and put into the circulation the newest results of studies; to organize the exchange of experience of this sphere’s specialists.
The association upholds connections with different Armenian Studies centers of the world, and also with the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and Mashtots Matenadaran. In the result of this co-operation the directorate of the Matenadaran with special initiative suggested to pass the immediate 13th conference of Armenian Studies association in the Matenadaran, which was accepted with big enthusiasm by administration and members of association.
This conference is especially important in that case that during the 33 years existence of AIEA it will pass in Armenia first time which is the best reason to unite scientist-armenologists from different universities of Europe in the mother land of Armenian Studies.
During the three days of the conference will be organized 16 meetings and during them will be read 70 reports from which 50 reports will be from foreign armenologists.
With confidence we can mark that the immediate 13th conference of AIEA is an important step in development of Armenian Studies and exchange of scientific information.
Now the Chair of Armenian Studies at the University of Geneva is Prof. Valentina Calzolari; the secretary is Theo van Lint (University of Oxford).
